چکیده

Magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements in magnetic fields were performed on an S = 1/2 one-dimensional antiferromagnet KCuGaF6. Exchange interaction was evaluated as J/kB ≃ 100 K. However, no magnetic ordering was observed down to 0.46 K. It was found that an applied magnetic field induces a staggered magnetic susceptibility obeying the Curie law and an excitation gap, both of which should be attributed to the antisymmetric interaction of the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya type and/or the staggered g-tensor. With increasing magnetic field H , the gap increases almost in proportion to H.

Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid in a quasi-one-dimensional S = 1 antiferromagnet observed by specific heat measurements.

Specific-heat experiments on single crystals of the S = 1 quasi-one-dimensional bond-alternating antiferromagnet Ni(C9H24N4)(NO2)ClO2 (NTENP) have been performed in magnetic fields applied both parallel and perpendicular to the spin chains. We have found for the parallel field configuration that the magnetic specific heat (C(mag)) is proportional to temperature (T) above a critical field H(c), ...

The Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the square-kagomé lattice

We discuss the ground state, the low-lying excitations as well as high-field thermodynamics of the Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the two-dimensional square-kagomé lattice. This magnetic system belongs to the class of highly frustrated spin systems with an infinite non-trivial degeneracy of the classical ground state as it is also known for the Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the kagomé and on the...

Direct Observation of Field-Induced Incommensurate Fluctuations in a One-Dimensional S=1/2 Antiferromagnet

Neutron scattering from copper benzoate, Cu(C6D5COO)2·3D2O, provides the first direct experimental evidence for field-dependent incommensurate low energy modes in a one-dimensional spin S = 1/2 antiferromagnet. Soft modes occur for wavevectors q̃ = π ± δq̃(H) where δq̃(H) ≈ 2πM(H)/gμB as predicted by Bethe ansatz and spinon descriptions of the S = 1/2 chain. Unexpected was a field-induced energy g...

Low-Temperature Properties of the Quantum Heisenberg Antiferromagnet on Some One-Dimensional Lattices Containing Equilateral Triangles

We consider the quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet in a magnetic field on two one-dimensional lattices containing equilateral triangles (a chain of corner-sharing double tetrahedra and a frustrated three-leg ladder) which support localized-magnon states. By mapping of the localized-magnon degrees of freedom on a classical lattice gas we obtain high-field thermodynamic quantities of the models a...

Midgap states of a two-dimensional antiferromagnetic Mott-insulator: Electronic structure of meron vortices

– We demonstrate from first principles that ferromagnetic core, meron vortex configurations of the spin1 2 antiferromagnet in two-dimensions give rise to midgap electronic states in the Mott-Hubbard charge gap. Merons are collective mode excitations of the antiferromagnet and are induced by doping the system with charge carriers. They are the topological analogs of charged bosonic domain wall s...
